Everything is Sacred

Updated: Jan 19, 2023

"Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement, to get up in the morning and look around at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed."

- Abraham Joshua Heschel

Imagine how different your life would be if you were constantly in awe of the world. This is not only possible but it simply takes a bit of intentionality.

It begins the moment you wake up in the morning, before you even open your eyes or move your body. The invitation is to pause, take a slow breath, and offer gratitude for the gift of another day. Repeat the practice of taking a mindful breath with gratitude whenever you remember throughout the day.

Then, the first time you look out the window or step outside, pause again, take a look around at all the details (the shapes, textures, and colours) of everything you see. Engage with the world from a place of praise as though it's the first time you're seeing it. Allow yourself to be constantly amazed!

Now, imagine that every single thing around you is sacred and filled with absolute beauty. Allow yourself to feel that the entire world is a temple, from your living room to a forest trail. Notice how this begins to shift your perspective.

As mentioned above, it's possible to live this way every day and some people do; those who have dedicated themselves to a spiritual life. However, we can all experience this type of amazement if we simply take the time to appreciate the magic all around us.
